Going through a 306 and 66 it really is very musical. The design is I think a classic and the remote control well that is definatively retro. Compared to my Rotel 971 with HDCD decoder the 67 is so much better. Details, soundstage, treble is superior. In combination with renovated Quad 405-2, Quad 44, FM4 and a pair of IMF TLS 80 II speakers the 67 is just amazing. The remote is quite ugly and it is crazy that the machine can not be operated without the remote. The orange display is impossible to see in daylight - but then again that´s typical Quad and part of the charm... First of all this thing sounds fantastic. Bought this on Ebay but also agree it is a disgrace you can't use machine without remote. The remote I got is malfunctioning. Anyone got a remote for sale or know where I can get one? Joe Hi,

I don't think they can supply them for the 66cd any more. Also, the 67 cd player can be operated without the remote. Put a disc in the tray and nudge it to close. It will automatically start playing. To stop just press eject. It's limited but maybe all you need. Quad do supply remotes for the 67. I don't think they can supply them for the 66cd any more. The 66 & 67 uses a philips transport and unsurprisingly Philips remotes work fine with it or Marantz and probably many others that also use the Philips transports. As for quad remotes, Quad issued the system remote we all love or hate due to its size mainly, or they did produce a separate 'normal' black remote for the 66 & 67. Regarding Joe Jacksons comment as a 'disgrace it cannot be used without a remote' I suppose that depends if you own a remote or not. The design concept was to minimalise the whole 6 series and either you like that or you don't. I own a few systems and obviously prefer them the way they are. Any of my old hi-fi that uses butons suffers from paint wearing/discolouring or flaking due to the sweat/whatever presumably from my finger. Joe I sold a 67 last year and the new owner also said they had a fault with the remote too? I had barely used it as I normally use the system remote so maybe there is an inherent fault within them or just coinicidence? To all of you that have trouble without a remote...

Also Nigel, am a music critic/writer and need to flick from track to track in my office, where I use teh Quad. Great, thanks again Joe Hi,

Needless to say, it has been working faultlessly ever since. Even my CD 66 starts playing when the tray is pushed in manually! The only thing I'm afraid may give up sooner or later is the rubber belt. Does anybody out there know of any source where I could order a replacement ??? It is used to provide power to the 6 series system remote so that it can be used if the battery runs out. I don't know if the socket on the 67 provides the same power, I've never tried it. The remote through the lifeline takes power from the front panel outlet on the Series 6 preamp, CD players (66 or 67) or FM tuner. Other Remotes: Any Philips RC5 compliant remote will operate the functions of the CD player (66 or 67). The preamp and tuner functions use codes outside the standard RC5 range, so a more complex remote is needed to learn these - very few remotes manage it. If you want life to get complicated, try the Series 7 where information was sent to the remote by the system as well as from the system to the remote. Making this work did serious damage to the company's balance sheet. Drawer gear pulley: The Gear Pulley for the Philips CDM-9 mechanism is available in a few places other than eBay, but the original stocks seem to be running out - gone are the days when postage cost more than the pulley! A new equivalent is listed under Zahnrad 12 at http://www.ersatzteil.justone-schnepel.de/html/unbenannt47.html for 39,90EUR! Now, back to the music....
