Audiolab 8000T FM/AM Tuner

Audiolab 8000T FM/AM Tuner

Audiolab

Launched in the late 80's, The Audiolab 8000T was one of best solid state tuners ever built. When it first went on sale with a hefty price tag of £899 it was by no means cheap but what it did offer was a whole host of features and a sound quality that was quite unique. If your listening preferences were either classical or jazz on the airwaves then the Audiolab 8000T partnered with a good quality directional FM aerial was your ideal tuner.

Many listeners found it superior to anything at any price range and combined with a whole host of features such as automatic tuning, advanced manual tuning and 39 presets, the Audiolab 8000T really had it all.

These days Fm tuners have become second fiddle to digital and satellite radio in most peoples homes which is a shame when you consider what analogue tuners like the Audiolab 8000T offer.

If you are still passionate about Fm reception, then Ebay would be a good place to try and pick one of these up from as we have seen many aution for under £200 which is a good buy given the features and the original cost price.

Few tuners have ever bettered the quality of the Audiolab 8000T

I purchased the Audiolab 8000T tuner about 8-9 years ago.
The digital readout (LED) is fading out on the right side.
Can you recommend a dealer or repair shop in the Long Island, New York area to repair it?
Your help is greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
David H. Friedlander

The 8000T uses 6.3V 200mA miniature filament bulbs as backlights. Has one of these blown ? I had to replace one on my tuner, bought s/h.

Relatively easy to replace the little bulbs, I have done mine twice ( over 14 years of daily use !) I think they should be available from RS components or Radio Shack. If I remember correctly, after opening the top cover of the tuner, you have to remove the bottom cover as well to get access to the little board that holds them.

That's if you're handy with a soldering iron and confident of what you're doing otherwise leave it to the service people David!

Cheers

I would advise being very careful on Ebay. Many of these have faulty tuning modules and the spares cannot be obtained. I was sold a faulty tuner by a couple near York, who turned out to be bankrupt. They claimed it was working when they sold it. I had it professionally tested - I lost £320 plus the testing fee. Needless to say, Ebay and Paypal would do nothing, neither would the police, even though it was clearly a blatant fraud. They were not the sort of people to won such a tuner, they had bought it scrapped to sell on.
