Cambridge Audio Azur 840E Pre Amp / 840W Power Amp

Recently launched at last month's Munich Hi-Fi show, Cambridge Audio have been released two new top of the range products, the Azur 840E Pre Amp and the Azur 840W Power Amp.
Retailing at £750, the Azur 840E Pre-amp steers away from op-amp type gain stages and uses its own discrete type designed by Cambridge Audio. Attenuation in the Azur 840E Pre Amp is done using a resistor ladder and relays, and there are eight inputs at the back, two of which are XLR balanced. The Cambridge Azur 840E Pre Amp also features a nice cool blue front display panel and is available in either a silver or black finish and should be on sale in this country early June.
The Azur 840W Power Amp is a 200W per channel that can be bridged to give 500W and makes use of a brand new output stage and high current output transistors. The 840W Power Amp also features a unique Cambridge Audio crossover stage (XD) whereby the amp operates in class A mode at low levels and class AB at higher levels and to do this requires a giant toroidal transformer to provide stable power. Like the Cambridge Audio Azur 840E Pre Amp, the Azur 840W Power Amp is also available in silver or black, retails for £100 and should be on sale next month.
