HTC Diamond

Although this site usually concentrates on high-end audio, we also try to give information on portable media such as mp3 players and in this case a mobile phone with mp3 capabilities. The HTC Diamond is essentially a rival to Apple's iphone which on paper ups the ante as far as mobile communications go.

The HTC Diamond measures 100 x 50 x 10 mm and weighs just 110g yet manages to incorporate GPRS, 3G/7.2mps HSDPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0, GPS, 192mb of Memory and 4gb of internal storage. Yet the thing that makes the HTC Diamond the phone to have at the moment is the wonderfully easy to use graphical touchscreen, which HTC call TouchFLO 3D.

The HTC Diamond is powered by Windows Mobile 6.1, yet you would not think it looking at the screen, and it is this HTC developed overlay that makes the Diamond stand out from the pack and gives the user a suitable interface for mp3 playback which has been available via windows media on previous SmartPhones but never as user friendly as on the Diamond.

The HTC Diamond is supplied with some very chic black USB headphones. This is the one gripe I have with the HTC Diamond in that there is no mini jack on the phone and any headphones must be plugged into the USB socket which limits your choice, although there numerous internet sites offering converters at very reasonable prices which allow you to use something a bit more sophisticated like the Sennheiser MX W1 Wireless headphones that we reported on last week.

The Media Player on the HTC Diamond is very easy to use especially if it is synced up with Windows Media Player on you main PC. The sound quality of the HTC Diamond through the supplied headphones is excellent with a very crisp and clean portrayal of the music and virtually no background noise. I was very impressed with the sound and it compared favourable with my old but still very competent Sony NW-HD3 Walkman.

To sum up, The HTC Diamond has to be one of the best all round phones available on the market today and given its long list of features, quite a few of which are not available on the Apple iphone such as 3G/HSDPA, you can see why so many people are talking it about it. As a fan of the Smartphone ever since the first e100 model, there is no doubt that this latest generation of phone is hard to beat.
