Sennheiser CX 300 II Headphones
February 6th, 2009

The original Sennheiser CX300 headphones quickly established themselves as the best upgrade for Ipods and MP3 players given their superior sound quality, features and sensible price. Almost all the headphones supplied with MP3 players tend to be something of an afterthought to say the least which is why manufacturers like Sennheiser have had such success with the CX300 headphones.
Given the success of the Sennheiser CX300 headphones, it was only a matter of time before Sennheiser updated them and that is exactly what they have done in the guise of the CX300 II pictured above with an improved features and retailing for the same price of around £40 although they will be many online retailers selling them for a lot less. Arcam MZ12 Amplifier
February 6th, 2009

Having scored great success with its FMJ range of hi-fi separates and Solo lifestyle products, Arcam has now turned its attention to the custom install market which focuses on multi room audio in the home and the background music currently found in shops and bars.
Arcam is lanching two multi zone amplifiers, the MZ12 and MZ8 which both share the same design and features, the only difference as suggested by the product name is the number of the channels they support. The Arcam MZ12 offers 12 x 65 watts per channel, whilst the Arcam MZ8 supports eight at the same power output as the Arcam MZ12. [...]

2009 Sound and Vision Show
February 5th, 2009
The 2009 Sound and Vision Show takes place in a couple of weeks at the Bristol Marriot Hotel. Oganisers will be hoping that crowds will be similar to last year even allowing for the fact that the country is deep in recession. Hopefully by then all the snow will have melted in the South West and the 2009 Sound and Vision Show can go ahead as normal.
As usual, all the big names in Hi-Fi will be exhibiting at the show including Arcam who will displaying their forthcoming FMJ Blu-Ray machines for the first time in this country after catching many peoples' eyes at last month's CES show. You can also expect new products from NAD, Cyrus and Denon who will be launching a universal blu-ray player. [...]

Philex SLX 32DW TV Aerial
February 2nd, 2009

The Philex SLX 32DW is a low cost high gain tv aerial suitable for receiving Freeview/DVB and analogue broadcasts in medium to strong reception areas. The Philex SLX 32DW is essentially a modern 12db gain aerial with a PCB Balun with 8 element reflector that can either be mounted on the roof or in the loft.
The Philex SLX 32DW is a CAI benchmark 3 aerial which retails for £19.99 as a kit and comes complete with brackets, 10m of superior RG6 foam insulated shielded cable, cable clips and instructions. As this was going to be a DIY install on property about 20 muiles south west of the Bilsdale transmitter in North Yorkshire, it was decided that the The Philex SLX 32DW be installed in the loft as this makes for the easiest install from a safety point of view to installer (ie me and my fear of heights) and should not effect signal strength too much given the relatively close proximity to the transmitter station. It will also give the aerial a longer life and should also give a good idea of how well the aerial can perform. [...]

TCI King Constrictor II Mains Lead
January 30th, 2009

Here at Hi-Fi Insight.com, we are big believers in squeezing the very best performance out of any piece of audio/visual equipment and sadly too many of us ignore areas such as mains cables preferring to use the supplied one which nine times out of ten will be of a very poor quality which combined with quality of the UK mains supply makes no sense. The TCI King Constrictor II Mains Lead is a very high quality, all British made audiophile cable, that is not only suitable for CD/DVD players and pre-amps but can also supply enough current to satisfy the most hungry of power amplifiers. The TCI King Constrictor II Mains Lead may not be cheap with prices starting at £250, but at a time when the UK pound is performing so dismally against other currencies, this makes an all UK made cable like the TCI King Constrictor II very competitively priced against foreign imports especially when you consider its specification.
The TCI King Constrictor II Mains Lead features a Rhodium plated thirteen amp UK plug at one end and a Rhodium plated IEC-Wattgate pluf at the other, split braid twin earth cable design and 16 PTFE insulated silver plater copper conductors, voltage spike and transient protection and an overall design that gives the TCI King Constrictor II a maximum load of 60 amps at 500V RMS. The speciailist TCI Rhodium plating is preferred to silver plating on the connectors due to lower contact resistance, less maintenance (cleaning) and its ability to provide a smooth and dynamic sound stage.
