Quad 22L2 Floorstanding Loudspeakers

Quad 22L2 Floorstanding Loudspeakers

Quad

Pictured above are Quad's new floorstanding loudspeaker, the Quad 22L2. Quad have completely gone back to the drawing board with their new range of loudspeakers, the L2 range which naturally replaces the existing L Range. Priced at £899 in the UK, the Quad 22L2 Floorstanding Loudspeakers are the top of range model in the L2 series. There is also a smaller Quad 21L2 Floorstanding Loudspeaker but the Quad 22L2 has extended bass. Boasting two 6.5" Kevlar bass units and an all new tweeter the Quad 22L2 Floorstanding Loudspeakers are designed to produce a flat response across the frequency range and extend the bass down to around 30hz by utilising a large reinforced cabinet measuring 85 x 20.50 x 27.8 cm.

Quad have not only reinforced and braced the cabinet of the Quad 22L2 Floorstanding Loudspeakers, but also used a a much stronger chassis for the 6.5" kevlar woofers which allows the drive unit to work more efficiently and reduce the effects of rear reflecting waves interfering the front projecting waves from the cone. The tweeter is an all new affair with an aluminium voice coil, a first for a loudspeaker of this sort. Because of this, the Quad 22L2 Floorstanding Loudspeakers is able to produce far more resolution at top end of the frequency scale and through a simple but very well designed crossover is able to blend seamlessly with the twin kevlar bass units.

The twin bi-wirable speaker terminals at the back of the Quad 22L2 Floorstanding Loudspeakers have also been improved and if that was not enough the cabinet finish has been improved as well which is absolutely remarkable given that there was no loudspeaker in the Quad's class that could match the existing finish of the L range.

The new improved Quad 22L2 Floorstanding Loudspeakers should be available in your local Quad dealer's showroom by the time you read this and look set to continue the excellent reputation of their predecessors.

Hello Mr. Dlamini

Don't get caught up in the madness of speaker cable hype! This is a very high profit segment of the business. We have free speech in the USA so any liar can say anything in print and not go to jail.

Before spending lots of money, can you put your power amps close to the speakers? If so, one or two feet of anything 14 gauge or so will be fine.

Next try 14 or 12 gauge stranded wire designed for toasters and heating appliances from the hardware store.

Next try solid 12 or 14 gauge wire. If it sounds worse than the stranded wire. Back up one step and stop.

If you must, look for "deals" on 10 or 12 gauge high grade wire from Parts Express, MCM Electronics, or Madisound.

Try Kimber Cable 4 used from any of the used cable sellers with small ads in Stereophile or Absolute Sound magazines.

I am an avid speaker builder, audio pro, member of the LAOCAS and would not kid you. Correspond if you wish. All questions answered.

Keep smiling!
Bill Calkins
