Quad 99 CDS CD Player
The Quad 99 CDS is probably one of the best value compact disc players available today for under £650. Essentially the Quad 99 CDS is identical in specification to the more expensive £999 Quad 99 CDP2, the only difference being that the Quad 99 CDS has no pre-amplifier section or digital inputs.
However the Quad 99 CDS feature the same custom built Quad transport system and the excellent Crystal 24bit/96kHz digital to analgoue converters that ensure the timing and rhythm of this cd player matches some of the very best CD players around. Having owned a Quad 99 CDP2 for over a year, I cannot fault the sound quality of the Quad 99s output and there are very few recordings that catch them out which is a testament to the design of the Quad from the transport to the output.
The build quality of the Quad 99 CDS is impressive and I am convinced the one pice die cast chassis improves the sound quality of these CD players. Personally I find the digital inputs of the more expensive Quad CD player essential for listening to Satellite broadcasts and PC based mp3 through a bit perfect sound card.
However if you are just looking for a silver disc spinner, then given that the Quad 99 CDS can purchased for under £650, then it should be a must to audition on anyone's short list
