Quad ESL 2905 Electrostatic Speaker

After what seems an eternity Quad's new electrostatic speakers the ESL 2905 are finally available in the UK.

Priced at around the £6000 mark, the new ESL 2905 electrostatic speakers are probably the most powerful and dynamic that Quad have ever produced not to mention the most stylish.

Unlike early bulky efforts, these sleek brushed aluminium speakers with black piano lacquered plinths simply ooze class and set new standards in clarity and imagery.

The ESL-2905 is one of two new electrostatic loudspeakers from Quad, the other being the smaller ESL-2805. The main difference being that the ESL-2905 has six electrostatic panels as opposed to the ESL-2805's four.

The ESL-2905 also has a larger diaphragm area that improves bass response, and increases overall dynamics making it ideal for larger rooms. But do not think this is at a trade off of subtle top ends nuances - far from it.

Inside the ESL-2905's utilise extremely high quality c-core transformers and high-grade audiophile capacitors and features 3 types of overload protection to ensure the speakers are not over driven and damaged. Engineered without compromise - no corner has been cut.
At 41.6 kg a speaker they are quite heavy but this adds to the overall dynamics and performance that these Quads have to offer. At £6,000 they are not cheap but you get what you pay for.
