Rega Apollo CD Player

Rega have long since had an almost cult repuation for their turntables through classics like the Rega 2 and 3, however of later their CD players have also started to follow suit and the Rega Apollo is a fine example. Launched recently by Rega to take over the mantle from the Planet, the Rega Apollo has received very favourable reviews in the Hi-Fi press culminating in last month's What Hi-Fi product of the year in the CD player category.
Retailing at £600, the Rega Apollo has been three years in development and makes use of a Rega designed digital servo, custom PLL clock chip and a class A output circuitry which produces a more natural realistic sound. Not content with all this Rega have also incorporated MP3/WMA compatibility into the mix as well! Unlike most players on the market, the Rega Apollo is a top loading player, and Rega have put a lot of thought into the design and completely engineered from scratch a player that tries to extract as much accurate information as possble off a disk without having to resort to error correction.
Being a top loading CD player, the Rega Apollo uses a three point ball bearing clamp (similar to a lot of portable CD players) rather than using a magnetic clamp which the de facto method on a front loading player. The Rega Apollo also uses the very lastest Wolfson DAC chips available, the WM8740 Sigma Delta 24bit Digitak to Analogue converter and comes complete with a full function remote control.
