Sky HD Price Reduction

Sky have slashed the cost of a Sky HD Box and existing Sky/Sky+ customers to a new all time low of just £49. Sky say the new move will create around 1000 new jobs which is good at a time when the UK economy needs a bit of a boost. This latest move by Sky follows several high profile promotions last year when they were offering a Sky HD Box for £79.
Currently Sky has around 800,000 HD subscribers and it is hoped this latest push will double those figures at least. As with all these types of deals, it is important that you read the small print so you know exactly how much it is not only going to cost you upfront but also per month, especially as the offer is subject to a minimum twelve month contract. But don't let that put you off because Sky are offering a cracking deal, so here is a breakdown of what it might cost you.
1) If you are a brand new Sky customer, then the Sky HD box will cost £49 + £30 standard installation. On top of this, your monthly subscription will be £55.75 per month assuming you take the full sport and movie package (which most people probably will as this is what most people want to watch in HD)
2) If you are an existing Sky Digibox/Sky+ customer, then the box will cost £49. If you choose to keep your existing box and opt for the multi room option, then installation is free but your monthly subscription will rise to just under £65 per month include the additional £9.75 subscription for Sky Multi room. If you don't want Sky multi room, the you will have to pay the installation cost of Sky HD which is £30.
3) If you are already a Sky HD customer, then a second Sky HD box will cost you £199.
Personally I think it is a shame that Sky are still pushing the £10 per month premium for HD content as I would much rather pay £100-150 for the set top box. However this may well change in the future as it did when Sky+ first came out. Either way Sky should be applauded for this promotion because it makes HD more affordable whilst creating a large number of jobs.
