Sony RDR-HXD860 DVD Recorder

Sony

I might might be biased but I have to confess I have always had a soft spot for Sony products, but in truth the reason I like them so much is that in the last thirty years I have never had one go wrong on me. I've had Sony trinitron televisions, radios, walkmans, discmans, compact disc players and amplifiers and never once have they failed to disappoint. I guess it all stems from that first Sony trinitron television that my parents rented. For anyone over thirty please ignore this bit, but for all you whipper snappers it was common place in 1970's for people not to buy colour televisions but rent them instead because they were considered a luxury item and you certainly never had one in your bedroom all to yourself. So I guess ever since i have always associated Sony with quality especially as the television in question worked with out fault for nearly 20 years.

Getting back the product above, the Sony RDR-HXD860 DVD Recorder which  is one of the best PVR/DVD recorders currently on the market. Sony really have got the design spot on with RDR-HXD860, it's silver front fascia is a beautifully layed out design with lots of silver visible to exemplify quality, with the seven or so function buttons cleverly hidden along the top of fascia giving a welcoming minimalist feel to the Sony RDR-HXD860 DVD Recorder which gives the user confidence in the simple ease of use. This fact is backed through an excellent set up wizard that gets the Sony RDR-HXD860 DVD Recorder up and running out of the box in no time at all, something even the most ardent technophobe will find hard to resist.

The gorgeous silver finish of the Sony RDR-HXD860 DVD Recorder also highlights its superb build quality, it feels solid and well made (like most Sony products I have come across) and this is one factor that makes it stand out from the crowd. However it is not just build quality where the Sony RDR-HXD860 DVD Recorder excels, sound and picture quality whether playing back or recording are exemplary and it is here where Sony should be congratulated the most. When you combine this with a whole host of convenience features, it is very hard to knock the Sony RDR-HXD860 DVD Recorder, and it is also has a surprisingly large media compatibility list as well which  is something Sony has not been renowned for in the past.

At the rear of the Sony RDR-HXD860 DVD Recorder, there are all the common connectors such as HDMI, Component, Twin Scart and S-Video which means the Sony RDR-HXD860 DVD Recorder should fit nicely in most peoples' home cinema system without problems.

With the UK street price under £400 you will hard pushed to find anything better than the Sony RDR-HXD860 DVD Recorder for the money, and given it's recent What Hi-Fi Award for the best PVR and DVD Recorder you would be doing yourself a disservice not to give it an audition if you were in the market for one. The Sony RDR-HXD860 DVD Recorder is available now through Sony Centres and other hight street retailers.

Hello, can someone please tell me if this unit can record onto Dual Layer discs ? I know the Panasonics can, but prefer the look of the Sony. Also is it possible to remove the ads when burning DVDs from Video tapes, many thanks.
